Ledston Ball started out in 1992 with a guest list of only 250 people. Since
then it has grown to be one of the most prestigious events on the Yorkshire social calendar and is certainly an
institution in the region.
A lot of the ball’s success is due to Lillian Whiteley, the
committed charity worker who originally came up with the idea. She is now
life president and still attends the ball, although the organisation and
planning has now been delegated to her willing committee. Click here to meet them.
One of the Ledston Ball’s greatest benefactors was Granville
Wheler, the owner of the Ledston Estate. He always permitted the use of
Ledston Hall grounds but sadly passed away in 2004. His legacy will live on
in the grounds of the hall year after year.
